2018 Runaway Barossa Marathon Postponed
IRONMAN has announced that the 2018 Runaway Barossa Marathon, scheduled to take place on 20 October, has been postponed.
“The loss of the original venue and subsequent infrastructure and logistical challenges for an event of this magnitude have led to today’s decision,” said Dave Beeche, Managing Director for IRONMAN Oceania.
“The inaugural event in 2017 delivered a great location, challenging courses, spectacular scenery, beautiful spring weather and wonderful Barossa hospitality, which are the qualities we are looking for in subsequent events. We are committed to finding another equally stunning location for future events in the Barossa Valley.”
All athletes registered for the postponed 2018 event will receive a full refund and are also eligible for a 50% discount to any other Runaway Marathon Series event, up to and including the 2019 Air New Zealand Hawke’s Bay Marathon and the 2019 Noosa Marathon (both scheduled for May 2019).
A successful Runaway Barossa Marathon very much remains a part of the Runaway Marathon Series, which includes the highly successful Air New Zealand Hawkes Bay International Marathon (12 May) and Air New Zealand Queenstown International Marathon (17 November) in New Zealand, and the inaugural Runaway Noosa Marathon (26 May) in Australia.
Beeche continued: ‘The feedback on the inaugural Runaway Barossa Marathon was outstanding, and while this year’s postponement is disappointing in the short term, we are committed to the return of a successful event in the future.
“Bringing a new event to a region is only possible with the support of large number of people. I would like to thank the two local Councils, local businesses and the wider Barossa community who made us very welcome and helped us in so many ways in 2017. We will continue to work closely with all affected stakeholders and hope to return bigger and better in 2019,” Beeche concluded.
